A phenomenological approach was utilized for this study. This approach seems most appropriate considering the unique cultural perspective of American Indian students. A number of scholars have argued the importance of accounting for the cultural perspectives of American Indian students and allowing them to provide descriptions of their own experiences (Brown a Robinson Kurpius, 1997; Jackson, Smith a Hill, 2001; McWhirter, 1997). Therefore, a phenomenological approach represents the best match for the objectives of this study.Her experience living with an alcoholic created financial hardship, made school difficult, and often left her feeling like a single ... And one semester I had registered and they de-registered me because some of my financial aid didnat come in.
